One Piece ist mit mittlerweile 1.080 Kapiteln ein gewaltiger Brocken von einem Manga. Die Netflix-Serie hat bisher nur einen Bruchteil davon behandelt, Staffel 1 umfasst gerade mal 100 davon und dabei wurde auch spürbar zusammengekürzt und eingestampft.
Gleichzeitig ist der Schöpfer des Mangas Eiichiro Oda mit seinem Manga noch lange nicht fertig, auch wenn er langsam, aber sicher auf dessen Ende zusteuert. Wie viele Staffeln müsste demnach die Netflix-Serie liefern, um der massiven Vorlage gerecht zu werden?
Auf wie viele Staffeln die Macher der Netflix-Serie hoffen
Darüber haben sich die Produzenten von One Piece Marty Adelstein und Becky Clements in einem neuen Interview mit Deadline unterhalten. Dabei verraten die beiden: Für die Netflix-Serie planen sie mit sechs Staffeln, hoffen aber sogar auf 12:
Aktuell umfasst der Manga über 1.080 Kapitel. Wir haben Pläne mit [Showrunner] Matt Owens geschmiedet, wie wir das auf mehrere Seasons aufteilen und ich denke, wenn wir auf sechs Staffeln kommen, können wir nur die Hälfte des Mangas behandeln. Es könnte weiter und weiter gehen.
Doch wird One Piece überhaupt verlängert? Trotz des allemal beeindruckenden Erfolgs von One Piece auf Netflix ist eine Staffel 2 nicht garantiert und zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt auch nicht offiziell bestätigt. Immerhin ist One Piece mit 18 Millionen US-Dollar eine der teuersten TV-Serien überhaupt geworden und diese Investition muss sich für Netflix auch langfristig auszahlen.
Im Gespräch mit Deadline verraten Clements und Adelstein, dass man sich mit Netflix zumindest schon über weitere Staffeln unterhalten hat:
Alles, was wir tun, passiert in Abstimmung mit Netflix, [dem Manga-Publisher] Shueisha und Oda-San. [...] Wir hatten auf jeden Fall schon innige Gespräche dazu, was wir in der zweiten Staffel machen würden, wenn wir die Gelegenheit dazu hätten und weniger ausführliche Gespräche darüber, wohin wir mit den Staffeln drei bis sechs wollen. Ich würde sagen, dass wir uns auf jeden Fall darüber einig sind, welche Teile des Mangas wir auf keinen Fall rauswerfen können und die den Fans auch wichtig sind. [...] Das wird noch viele Gespräche brauchen, aber wir sind glücklich darüber, bereits eine Roadmap zu haben.
Vor Kurzem wurde übrigens erst bekannt, dass Staffel 2 von One Piece eigentlich schon fertig geschrieben wäre. Die Verantwortlichen warten damit eigentlich nur auf eine offizielle Verlängerung und auch darauf, dass der anhaltende Hollywood-Streik beigelegt wird, im Zuge dessen sich Schauspieler und Drehbuchautoren für fairere Löhne und bessere Arbeitsbedingungen einsetzen.
